Day 3: My First Love

Image
I was home, eating dinner, and done with my homework by 8 pm tonight! Delight! This means I can actually sit down, relax, and take some time to blog before studying, and I might actually get to sleep at a decent hour. I've got my steaming mug of creamy hot cocoa and a package of ho-hos, I'm good to go! I admit that today's blogging challenge left me quite perplexed. My first love? What on earth will I write about? There are so many answers! This is largely due to the limitations of the English language (which I mentioned in point #3 a few days ago), which allows us to use "love" for all manner of things and dilute its meaning. Yes, there are more options than exist for "sorry," but culture dictates that rather than saying, "I really enjoy, delight in, like, find charming," etc, we say, "I love it!" So, I started thinking. What are my options here? Well, the Sunday School answer is always Jesus. I don't mean that in jes...

Day 2: Meaning of My Blog Name

Image
Today was a good day! Much better than yesterday. I must say, though, I look forward to the far-off Someday when I don't find myself eating dinner at 10 o'clock at night. On to the challenge! (This is a good procrastination break from studying for the ear training/dictation test, theory test, and music history test I have coming up Thursday/Friday.) Well, this is my second blog. The last one ( Across the Atlantic/German Faery Tales ) was easy to name, because it was fairly self-explanatory. However, once I was home 'for good,' it felt odd continuing to write on that blog, so I decided I needed a new one. Not having a clue what exactly I'd be writing about, I decided that A Little Rambling just about summed it up. As for the tagline, 'homemade, homegrown, and homeward bound," that has a little more explanation. Homemade: Confession time: I admit, I kind of want to be a mommy-blogger. Living in the military community, I was surrounded by young moms...

Day 1: Introduction, Recent Picture of Myself, and 15 Facts

Image
It's a beautiful rainy day! Usually rain makes me chipper and feel like dancing. Today, for some reason, it's put me in a kind of funk. Nightmarish traffic didn't help that at all. But I'm home and about to make a delicious sandwich, so that helps! On to the challenge... Hi, I'm Laura. Not so good at introductions. Mostly because I always feel there is way too much to me to fit in a few sentences, and at the same time not enough to really fill one. But I suppose the 15 facts will help introduce me, as will the other 29 days left to go. In short, I am a Christian girl from Phoenix with two great parents and one little sister and a heart full of friends. I left a corner of my soul in Germany and can't wait to go back to visit it, though I doubt I shall ever reclaim it. And if I write any more here, I doubt I'll be able to come up with 15 facts, so moving on! Voilà! C'est moi. And the vanity shows through in the fact that I couldn't pick and h...

The 30 Day Challenge

Well, this should be interesting, given my track record for inconsistency in blogging adventures. But my new friend Rebekah has inspired me to try - mostly because I thoroughly enjoyed reading her entire challenge to date this evening. A good way to spend the last day of Spring Break! So anyways, in this 30 + 1 day blogging idea, there are different, largely me-centric topics to be discussed each day. This would have been wise to start over spring break, before the insanity of my school/work/choir schedule took back over, but hey. What's one more thing on my plate? At least this one will be enjoyable for me and the none of you who actually read this. We'll see if it lasts longer than the 1000 gifts/Multitudes on Mondays idea did. Mondays were just too hectic! Anyhoo, the topics (as edited by Reb) are.... Comfort Zones!

Image
It's amazing how fast people can adapt. We get thrown into a situation outside what we know as our comfort zone, and yet very soon that very new and frightening situation can become familiar. I just started back up at ASU this semester and was totally and completely overwhelmed for the first week or two. I left my little tiny school where everything was on track and on time to be thrown back a year or so in this massive university and have very little idea of what was going on. I didn't speak the specific dialect of this school, I didn't know a single person in this place, I was older than most of my classmates and yet behind them in many ways, and I was, once again, the new kid. Well, after about 6 weeks of school, I finally have friends! Well, sort of. I have good acquaintances who are likely on their way to becoming my friends, which is a wonderful thing. I've settled into a routine as much as possible. I've found some kind of balance between getting ever...

Forgiven

Image
Had some awful dreams last night, playing on things in my past and some things certain people have said recently, twisting them, leaving me with an awful kind of guilt when I woke up this morning. I was driving to work praying and beating myself up and I turned on the radio, hoping for some song that would bring the words I needed to hear, and on came this song, starting right at the chorus. God knows exactly what we need to hear. "Forgiven" - Sanctus Real Well the past is playing with my head, and failure knocks me down again I’m reminded of the wrong that I have said and done And that devil just wont let me forget In this life I know what I’ve been But here in your arms, I know what I am- I’m forgiven I’m forgiven And I don’t have to carry the weight of who I’ve been 'Cause I’m forgiven My mistakes are running through my mind and I’ll relive my days, in the middle of the night When I struggle with my pain, wrestle with my pride Sometimes I feel alone, and I cry ...

late again

Image
Today is just a day for being late. Late for my blog, and late for my first class of a new semester! I'm back at ASU, and parking without a permit is a nightmare. The joys of being a transfer student continue! But enough about the stressful things, and onto things I'm thankful for. 21. actually finding a spot to park - twice. 22. not getting a parking citation when my parking meter expired 23. having classes that won't be so boring and/or easy I doodle and nap my way through them 24. sitting next to at least one friendly person 25. getting to spend time with my twin this weekend 26. having fun making a sugary mess while frosting cookies 27. a pocket full of quarters 28. a plan to thwart ASU's plan for me & class piano 29. finding more packing boxes today 30. my wonderful mother and father 31. mom letting me word-vomit to her on the phone 32. dad installing my new stereo 33. dad giving me some extra gas in the tank 34. sister's encouraging texts ...
