certifiably insane?

In case you are in need of some bizarre entertainment, read on. Dreams are strange. I often don't remember mine, but when I do, they're usually something semi-ordinary, put into an extraordinary context. Old relationships may surface, or strange locales, or seemingly random events. Things get hodgepodged into a lump of silliness. Last night, my subconscious took this to a whole new level. I'm afraid I don't remember it well enough to give an accurate tale, but I would like to point out some of the things included. There was a tiny black kitten. Somewhere in my kitchen was a vortex of sorts that emitted blinding white light and allowed demons into my home. One of these was the smoke monster from LOST. Somehow, I escaped the house and then there's a blank between this and the next event - I had a car, but it had no engine. Two famous brothers (not sure who they were, just that they were famous) came to fix it for me, since they'd built it themselves, and th...

A Different Perspective

So much Christmas music! I am quite the stickler for not listening to Christmas music before the day after Thanksgiving, but alas, as a musician I am forced to make the music long before the season. I'm getting ready for my studio recital coming up in December, so I've got all my students working on their performance pieces, a larger percentage of with are Christmas carols. It's cheery and delightful, but it makes me long for the season - and for weather that doesn't even come close to 90 degrees. In my next to last piano lesson of the day, we were working through Carol of the Bells. I was trying to convey the idea of thinking about the music as more than just notes on a page, but imagining the imagery behind it to help bring life to the music. (I doubt I sounded quite that stodgy about it though.) I was talking some nonsense about snowflakes whirling, bells over hillsides, that kind of thing, and she suddenly turned and said, "That's not what I see at al...

I generally go to one Diamondbacks game a year. When dad had season tickets, I went much more often. Back then, I knew who the players were, and I cheered enthusiastically for as much of the game as held my attention. (I was often more interested in the ballpark food.) About since they went from purple and teal (awesome!) to red and tan (blech), I've stopped caring. I recognized 3 names at the game tonight. I wore a hat in support because I got it free at the gate. The fact that we lost almost went unnoticed. That is not why I go to the games (though my love of baseball itself is undiminished). These girls are why I go to the games. Rachel and Bekah, two of my favorite humans on the planet. I know I've mentioned this before . I've known them since they were born, and been friends with their older siblings since I was born. I cannot even begin to express how much I adore them. Going to this game with my parents' sunday school class is a long standing traditi...
